Which skin conditions does micro needling treat?

Micro needling is an excellent way to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne scarring, wrinkles, and fine lines. This treatment can also help improve the appearance of wrinkle-inducing skin such as hyperpigmentation (uneven tone) due to stretch marks.

Featuring advanced technology, the Dr Pen M8 Ultima Pen can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and stretch marks.

How does it work?

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive procedure that involves creating small punctures in the skin with a fine needle. This triggers the skin's natural healing response, which leads to an increase in collagen and elastin production. Collagen is a protein that helps to keep skin looking plump and smooth.

Increasing your skin cell turnover helps to reveal fresh, radiant skin. This results in a more youthful appearance.

The pen is safe for all skin types and can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, and body.

What is Nano Needling, and how is it different from Micro Needling?

Nano needling combats similar skin concerns to micro-needling such as reducing the appearance of fine lines, acne and hyperpigmentation using your body's own natural repair response. The difference is that when nano needling, you won’t penetrate into the dermis layer which helps with improving texture issues like deep scars or stretch marks. It does however, help reduce other blemishes by only puncturing the first few layers due its smaller size, compared to the fuller sized needles used in micro needling.

Micro needling penetrates deeply into the dermis. If your skin care concerns are for deeper fine lines, deep acne scarring, stretch marks, loss of elasticity, hyperpigmentation and overall improved appearance of texture and tone, then micro needling is the treatment to choose.

You can nano-needle once per week with the depth set at 0.25mm, whereas it is recommended you microneedle only once every 4 weeks.

When used correctly, micro needling visibly improves the texture & appearance of your skin.

Follow these Steps to give your skin a healthy glow

The Dr Pen M8 Ultima Microneedling Pen is a powerful tool. It comes with a User Manual which you need to read before you use the Pen for the first time.

To give you an idea of how simple it is to use, follow the steps below to get the best results.

1
Start with Clean Skin

For the best results be sure to remove any makeup, and wash and pat-dry your face thoroughly before starting. Fully tie back your hair, away from your face.

2
Apply Serum

Apply a thin layer of serum or other topical treatment to your face. This helps the pen to glide more smoothly over your skin and helps with the absorption of the serum.

3
Choose the Pin Size

Select the appropriate needle size. The 16 pin is for your face, and the 36 pin is recommended for the body (stretch marks, for example).

4
Glide the Pen Over Your Skin

Slowly move the pen over your skin in small, consistent strokes, slightly overlappipng each time. Be sure to go slowly and evenly to avoid any irritation. *

5
Apply a Soothing Face Mask

After you have finished using the pen, apply a soothing moisturizer, serum or face mask to help calm your skin. Then sit back, and relax for at least 10 minutes.

6
Use Regularly

With regular use, you'll soon see noticeable improvements in the appearance of your skin!

* When using the pen, don't press too hard - you should just barely feel the needles penetrating your skin.

To get the best results, multiple treatments are needed. Its recommended you microneedle roughly once every 4 weeks.

Needle Cartridge Replacements

The needles for Dr Pen products are made from high-quality stainless steel. They can only be used once, so you will need to replace these before you run out.

Different Dr Pen products take different cartridges so make sure you check you're buying the pin cartridge that is compatible with your Pen.

How will I look after the Treatment? Is it Painful?

Microneedling is a fantastic way to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles, but it can also cause some redness (erythema) in certain areas. The amount of redness depends on each individual. Personally, I have a spot on the top of my forehead near my hairline that is slightly painful during micro needling, and shows up a little red after treatment. For me, it's only this one area on my face that shows any irritation.

The feel of the micro needle pins can take a little getting used to. If you've been to a professional salon for treatments before trying this at home, then you'll know what to expect. If this is your first ever go at micro needling, then don't worry too much. Always start with a shallow depth and work your way deeper only if it feels comfortable.

The Pros and Cons of At-Home Micro Needling

There are many benefits to at home micro needling, including its affordability and convenience.

At home micro needling can be a safe and effective way to improve the overall appearance of your skin, as well as reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. Additionally, the at-home micro needling pen when used with Nano cartridges can help to improve the absorption of skincare products.

At home micro needling can also be less likely to cause side effects than professional treatments. However, at home micro needling can be less effective than professional treatments. It is important to follow the directions carefully to avoid skin damage.

There are some potential risks associated with at-home micro needling including infection, inflammation, and bruising. It is important to consult with a health professional such as a Dermatologist or your GP prior to starting any at-home skincare treatments. Never use a micro needling pen on open wounds, on acne or irritated skin.
